The Isle of Anglesey is an island and a county off the North West coast of Wales. There are
two bridges over the Menai Strait which connects to the rest of the country, the Menai Suspension Bridge and the Britannia Bridge which carries the A5.
There are many megalithic monuments and menhirs in Anglesey, the remains of human presence in prehistory.
Anglesey is a fairly flat island, with few hills. There are several small towns on Anglesey scattered around, the largest towns are Holyhead and Llangefni. In the east of the island is Beaumaris Castle, Beaumaris is a yachting centre in the region and there are many boats moored in the bay.
Anglesey is mostly based around agriculture and tourism, the range of local produce is varied; including cheese, chocolate and wine. Some of the produce grown in Anglesey is also organic. Around two million people visit Anglesey annually; there are many opportunities for recreation on the island, such as enjoying the sandy beaches and coastal walks and cycle paths. Anglesey is also an ideal location for water sports, such as wind surfing, jet skiing, sailing and angling.
The village of Rhosneigr has three beaches, Cymyran Beach, Pwll Cwch and Traeth Llydan. Cymyran Beach stretches from Rhosneiger to Rhoscolyn, another village; Pwll Cwch is a popular beach where boats and yachts stay with fantastic views of Snowdonia and Traeth Llydan is a Green Coast Award winner and is a perfect location for canoeing, walking and surfing.
Anglesey has hosted the National Eisteddfod several times, the last being in 1999. The island is also a member of the International Island Games Association.
