One of the most popular mountain bike trails in the country is Coed Y Brenin, which sees Coed y Brenin Mountain Bike Trailthousands of visitors tackle the range of mountain bike courses suitable for a range of level and experience. A new loop called Buwch Bren has been introduced recently offering riders the chance to try out longer climbs and more technical features. It extends the MinorTaur’s range to nine kilometres, meaning riders can tackle one loop (three kilometres), two loops (five kilometres) or the full distance.

For now, this is how Coed Y Brenin will remain, until further funding can be secured to extend the trail to 12 kilometres. The MinorTaur has quickly become one of the most popular routes at Coed Y Brenin, due to its new challenges and its ability to be experienced by a whole range of ages and abilities, and even riders with disabilities, using adaptive mountain bikes.

It is considered to be a great starting point for beginners in off road riding allowing them to build up experience and confidence before moving to the more difficult trails like Cyflum Coch. The MinorTaur is extremely unique and can be ridden by disabled people due to its specially designed width of the trail, radius of turns and low gradients, along with technical features the make it perfectly suitable for adaptive mountain bikes.

The new loop allows multi use crossing of the Mawddach gorge over an aerial bridge called Offspring. The trail approaches at either end of the bridge and has been widened, with the gradient being reduced and certain passing’s widened to allow tree and four wheeled bikes to pass through, as well as pedestrians.

The move is part of the Gwynedd Council-led Eryri Centre of Excellence partnership, which is funded by the EU’s convergence European Regional development Fund through visit Wales and other Wales community and tourism boards.
