Any film buffs will no doubt he huge fans of the works of the seminal Alfred Hitchcock and the king of thrillers is set to have his own day of commemoration this 12th of March at Galeri Caernarfon – perfect if you’re staying at Snowdonia holiday parks.
Hitchcock is known as one of the best directors of all time and is constantly lauded as the best director from the British Isles. Many modern day films are inspired by the man from Essex and he continues to be an inspiration long after his death in 1980 at the age of 80.
Known for appearing in small cameo roles for his own films as well being an innovator in his field, Hitchcock made a fine array of films throughout his career including: The 39 Steps, The Lady Vanishes, Vertigo, North by Northwest, The Birds and Psycho. The latter is one of three classic films from Alfred Hitchcock have been voted for to watch at Galeri this March.
One of the most culturally-defining motion pictures to ever hit the screen, Psycho caused a furore on its release in 1960 for its graphic content and themes. Slightly tame by today’s standards, it’s still a landmark in cinema and is always found near the summit of “Best Films” lists.
You can also choose to watch Hitchcock’s 1951 release, Strangers On a Train. The subject matter is certainly not light-hearted as it revolves around the chance meeting of a psychopath and young sports player. After discussing how they would like to “get rid of” certain people, the two decide to exchange their murders and set about doing just that. Tense, fraught and highly controversial for its time, Strangers on a Train is a classic thriller.
The final choice National Alfred Hitchcock Day is the romantic thriller, To Catch a Thief. A real tour de force of stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood, this 1955 release stars Cary Grant and Grace Kelly. Grant portrays a retired cat burglar who is tempted into one last job in France and Kelly plays his romantic interest. The film went on to claim an Academy Award and is very much recognised as one of Hitchcock’s best.
The voting has now closed for these three classics to watch on National Alfred Hitchcock Day but whichever one was the most popular is sure to provide a quality night of entertainment at half 7 on the 12th of March. Prices start from £3.50.
