A regular event in the North Wales calendar is the Snowdonia Marathon: a hectic and challenging occasion which is sure to be a good day out when you stay at lodges in Snowdonia.
Since its inception in 1982, the marathon has gone from strength to strength with it being declared the best British marathon for 2007 and 2011. This triumph is undeniable thanks to the spectacular views and demanding course that any hardened runner must undertake.
Taking in the grand scope of Snowdon, the marathon is known for its difficult but rewarding length and the famous local hospitality as they cheer you along. If you’re not feeling like putting on your running boots, you can be a spectator and watch on with the S4C camera crews – an inclination of the pulling power of the occasion.
Limbering up before the start at 10:30 a.m. with one of the professional instructors, you can then surge across the Llanberis area along a winding and bending course. Should you be still be going strong then the final push up 1200 ft of hill Bwlych y Groes might take some doing before you deservedly cross the finishing line back in Llanberis. Any eager youngsters can take part in the junior races with courses suited for a number of age ranges. A well-earned prize awaits them once they cross the finishing line with goodie bags available for all participants.
A cash prize awaits the person who smashes the course record which is a great opportunity for any budding Mo Farah’s to make a name for themselves or for any newcomers to set a goal to work towards for the future. The top positions will also all receive a specially commissioned piece of art by local talent which is notorious for its excellence in the industry. Another fantastic incentive is to raise money for charity with the Marathon Eryi Cyf raising £11000 back in 2007 for local causes such as schools and trip funding.
The 26th of October will be a fantastic day for the sport and local community and you could be right there with them this month.
