A holiday park near Snowdonia is a perfect place to stop and rest up whilst you take part in all the exciting outdoor activities that North Wales has to offer.
Caernarfon and the surrounding areas are bustling with activities and opportunities for fun-filled days out. With so much to see and do within the fantastic landscape of North Wales, there’s bound to be something to suit all ages and personal preferences.
The following activities have come highly recommended, and are open throughout the winter season. Colder days and darker nights may already be upon us, but that doesn’t mean you have to resign yourself to the comfort of your sofa just yet!
Caernarfon Castle
Caernarfon Castle, a world heritage site, is a fantastic site to spend the day at. This medieval fortress was built by hand (by quite a lot of craftsmen) within five years, being completed in 1287. It was King Edward I who constructed this castle, along with Conwy Castle, which isn’t too far away from Caernarfon.
Fans of all things historical will enjoy walking around the imposing and impressive walls of this castle, which is rich in monarchy history. It’s also a fun place for kids to explore with its expansive grounds, sneaky hiding places and exhausting spiral staircases.
The Royal Welch Fusiliers Museum can also be found situated within the towers of the castle. It’s a fantastic opportunity to learn more about Wales’s oldest infantry, a regiment with over 300 years of service and history. Entry into this museum is free if you have paid admission into the castle.
GreenWood Forest Park
GreenWood Forest Park is packed with activities. This park has been voted best family day out in North Wales for 5 years in a row – quite an impressive feat!
GreenWood Forest Park is a rather unique day out; a water slide powered completely by solar power and a roller coaster which is, quite remarkably, powered by people are just two of the interesting activities to try during your day.
The ‘BareFoot Trail’ will allow you to safely run barefooted through a range of different terrains including water, bark, straw and sand. This is the first of its kind in Wales, and offers an interesting sensory experience.
Children under 12 can reach for the stars on the super giant jumper, a huge bouncing pillow which spans 1,500 sq feet. Children younger than this can enjoy the tunnel warren, which features tunnels, slides and ropes to climb around on safely.
Snowdonia Riding Stables
The beautiful landscape in North Wales is the perfect setting for a guided horse riding tour. Snowdonia Riding Stables is situated 10 minutes southeast of Caernarfon. They offer a range of riding sessions, ranging from 1 hour to a full day of riding.
Introductory rides are available for those who have no experience with horses, and the 1/1.5 hour rides can be tailored to your experience level. Those with riding experience are able to have the opportunity to canter along Welsh countryside, an exhilarating and picturesque experience!
It’s a wonderful way to get out and view the Snowdonia landscape – without having to use your own feet!
Parc Glynllifon
Parc Glynllifon is an absolutely beautiful location to take a walk through. Before starting your walk through these scenic grounds, why not get lost in the maze situated at the entrance of the park, or simply have a warming drink in the café and gift shop?
Waterfalls, sculpture trails and fountains are just a few of the things you’ll see during your walk. An abundance of plant life and wildlife can be found within Parc Glynllifon, making it a wonderful day out for both children and adults alike. There’s plenty of benches dotted along the way so you can sit down with a sandwich and enjoy the serene setting.
