The Isle of Anglesey attracts over two million visitors each year; it is a popular tourist location and county off the North West coast of Wales. The island is connected to the mainland by two bridges, the Menai Suspension Bridge and the Britannia Bridge (carrying the A5) which cross over the Menai Strait.
Anglesey is full of a surprising amount of history for a small island; there are many megalithic monuments and menhirs, remains left over by human presence in prehistory.
There are many villages and towns spread out across the island, including Llangefni, Lllannerchymedd, Amlwch, Beaumaris and Holyhead, a popular location for catching ferries to Ireland. Anglesey is also home to the villages with the longest place name in Britain; Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, more commonly known as Llanfairpwll of Llanfair PG by the locals.
The rural coastline of Anglesey has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which includes many beaches. The village of Rhosneiger has three beaches; Cymyran Beach, Pwll Cwch and Traeth Llydan. Cymyran Beach spans from Rhosneigr to the village Rhoscolyn, Pwll Cwch is a popular location for boats and yachts and Traeth Llydan is a Green Coast Award winner and an excellent place for canoeing and surfing. All of the beaches are also perfect locations for walking and relaxing.
Anglesey has been host to the National Eisteddfod several times, with the latest being in 1999. The island is also a member of the International Island Games Association.
There are many places to visit in Angelsey, including the Angelsey Sea Zoo, which is home to local marine wildlife including lobsters, Conger eels, fish and crustaceans that have been caught and placed in display reconstructions of their natural habitats.
Angelsey is a wonderful place to visit and hosts a wide selection of accommodation choices including; Anglesey holiday cottages, hotels caravans, camping, holiday parks and several B&Bs. Many visitors to the island have their own holiday home and come back many times.
