The Ffestiniog Railway is putting on a Christmas event with a difference…it will take place on a train. Adults and children of all ages will be invited to wrap up warm and jump aboard the Santa train for a day trip to remember for the rest of their lives. Visitors to the villages of Llanberis and nearby Porthmadog from holiday cottages in Blaenau Ffestiniog will be spoilt for choice from the 13th to the 16th December.
Llanberis Christmas Fair
The town of Llanberis in Gwynedd will be holding its annual Christmas Fair on the evening of the 13th December. There will be a lantern parade which will make its way through the village accompanied by fire eaters, jugglers and drummers stirring up the crowd along the way. When the parade reaches the High Street there will be a chance to take part in a traditional carol singing service.
Entertainment will be provided by the “Honeyz” dance troupe before Father Christmas makes an appearance to switch on the Christmas Tree lights and wish everyone a happy Christmas. There will be plenty of mulled wine to go around a chance to embark on some last minute Christmas shopping with a selection of local crafts guaranteed to be memorable stocking fillers!
Take a Ride on the Santa Train
A short drive down the road in Llanberis the Ffestiniog Railway is putting on a Christmas event with a difference. ..it will take place on a train. Adults and children of all ages will be invited to wrap up warm and jump aboard the Santa train for an unforgettable train journey which takes in the stunning Snowdonia countryside. There is even an opportunity to have pictures with Santa and his helpers at Tan-Y-Bwlch and Waunfawr. There will be another Christmas shopping opportunity at the souvenir shop in Porthmadog and you can relax in the Spooner Cafe and make a day of it.
The Santa experience runs from Saturday 15th to Sunday 16th December departing from Porthmadog Railway Station. Little ones and grown-ups will be whisked away on a journey that involves eating delicious mince pies and spectacular views of the Snowdonia countryside in a fully restored old – fashioned railway carriage. The highlight of the trip is Santa visiting the vintage compartments with his helpers which is guaranteed to inspire children’s imaginations. Adults receive a traditional glass of Sherry for their journey. The Santa trains are extremely popular so people are urged to book as soon as possible for a Christmas experience they will never forget. If you cannot make this particular weekend do not worry as Santa Trains will continue to run on weekends leading up to Christmas from Caernarfon and Porthmadog train stations.
