The furthest away if you base yourselves in Llandudno is the magnificent links course Royal St. David’s at Harlech. The royal title comes from the time Edward the VII gave the club his patronage and the Duke of Windsor, later to become the King that abdicated Edward the VIII was club captain in 1934. This is a true test of golf set below the mountains of Snowdonia and bordering on the sands of Harlech it is reputed to be one of the hardest par 69’s in the world and Ian Woosnam rates amongst the top 5 courses in the United Kingdom. It is a reasonable drive from Llandudno but well worth the journey and you will love to tell the story of your day there when you are in the bar of the Cae Mor that evening.

A little closer to Llandudno is Nefyn and District Golf Club a fantastic links course and you can see the sea from every tee on the course, this is definitely for the straight hitters! If you are unfortunate to get wet whilst there then just speak to the staff at the Cae Mor and they will help you with drying your equipment ready for the next day, and where to go next?

Around the Llyn peninsula with views of the beautiful Cardigon bay and the Snowdonia mountains there are another 3 testing course at Porthmadog, Pwllehli and Abersoch all very enjoyable and all of them mixtures of parkland and links golf giving you the best of both.

If you travel across to the Isle of Anglesey you have a choice of 7 different courses with one of them, Baron Hill being reputedly, one of the oldest course in Wales.

However if you do not want to travel then just on your doorstep are 3 absolutely magnificent golf course that whilst you will enjoy you will also find yourself fully tested.

Firstly the Championship course at Conwy which has hosted qualifying rounds for the Open as well as hosting on a regular basis the European seniors tour events. With some of the tightest fairways you will come across anywhere you need to be on top form here!

Closer still is the North Wales (Llandudno) Golf Club, a true links course, you can find your round being affected by the winds blowing in from Anglesey and beyond and some of the holes like the 8th will really test you. A word of encouragement though, many years ago a young Tony Jacklin, remember him? Spent a summer here and with lessons reduced his handicap from 17 to 1! Perhaps you could do the same!

Literally across the road from the North Wales course and running alongside for some holes is Maesdu Golf Club. You start here with a par 3 tight to the road, do not be fooled this lovely little par 3 can damage many a score card! A lovely undulating course with lovely views of Conwy bay and the Great Orme it is a real joy to play this course and when you finally get yourself to the 18th before you play any shots just stand and admire the wonderful views.  Out to your left you can see the Isle of Anglesey and the Snowdon mountains as well as Conwy bay, ahead of you is the beauty of the Great Orme and as you look to your right the town of Llandudno is laid out below you and the bay looking out on to the Irish sea as well. Mind you do not stand there too long though otherwise you might find yourselves holding up the match behind you! Teeing off to go down the par 5 18th make sure you do not drift in to the out of bounds that border the grounds of Llandudno hospital to your right.

Once you have finished your round the clubhouse at Maesdu is always very welcoming for that refreshing drink before you go back to the Cae Mor to rest and change before having a lovely meal in the restaurant, always such a good choice of food and wines as well.

If you want an evening out then the conference centre and theatre next door ‘Venue Cymru’ always has something to offer in the way of entertainment.

The Cae Mor will be a welcoming place after the exertions of your golf but with its comfortable lounge and bar, super rooms and fantastic restaurant there is everything you need here. The Cae Mor even has its own easy access car park and of course it is disabled friendly with ground floor rooms available. Enjoy your golf and enjoy your stay at the Cae Mor Hotel in Llandudno
