North Wales, home to a National Park, Snowdonia. In this region, there is an abundance of nature; with impressive peaks, tranquil farmland and dramatic rivers – but one exciting way to spend your day is by one of Snowdonia’s many lakes.

Llyn Crafnant
Llyn Crafnant is located just above Trefriw in Conwy. This picturesque lake is great for a couple of hours of stroll. The path around Crafnant is relatively flat the whole route round, so should be manageable for the whole family. You could also choose to follow extra trails up to hidden waterfalls, or extend your walk by continuing onto the neighbouring lake Llyn Geirionydd.
If you fancy a refreshment break, there are plenty of spots for a picnic, or check for the opening times of the lakeside café. They have benches for customers to use, with a great view over the lake and the paddle boats.
Llyn Bochlwyd
This lake has been nicknamed ‘Australia lake’ due to its shape from a birds-eye view resembling the country – which you can get a glimpse of if you climb up neighbouring mountains Tryfan or Glyder Fawr. Obviously, with those peaks around the lake, you can imagine the scene is rather dramatic, which is why it is so popular with wild swimmers who want to experience the ruggedness of the Ogwen Valley.
To get to Llyn Bochlwyd, park up at Ogwen Cottage, just past Bethesda on the A5, and follow to the stone path up to the left. The path to the right takes you to Llyn Idwal – an equally stunning location!
Llyn Stwlam
This lesser-known lake is actually a reservoir, and very different to the others. It’s not one for a day’s relaxing in the sun or swimming, but still worth the journey. Llyn Stwlam is popular with cyclists for its windy path to the ultra-impressive Dam – serving for an amazing picture! You can take a break once at the top for a refuel with Moelwyn Mawr just behind you.
To get there, you first park at the reservoir entrance in Tanygrisiau by Blaenau Ffestiniog. Take the path heading up to the mountains. On the way up, you’ll get an incredible view right down to south Snowdonia.
