For those of you who are thinking of tackling the mighty Snowdon, or Yr Wydffa, you’ll be pleased to know that the vast majority of active people will have no problem with it. The most manageable route is the Llanberis Path, which follows the same route at the Snowdon mountain railway. This coincidentally is the route to take if you’re not active enough to tackle the mountain, as its as simple as sitting your bum down on a chair and admiring the gorgeous views as they flow past outside. This way you can see the peak without having to do the strenuous hike. Remember to check local travel restrictions before planning your trip

The Ranger’s Path is slightly more technical but when combined with the Llanberis route, it forms a great circuit for the hike. Any competent or even novice hiker would love this path.

Another relatively simple route (relatively being the keyword here) is the Pyg track. This is a favourite path of many thanks to the diversity of scenes along the way, although there are some steep and challenging sections, its overall a well balanced and enjoyable path.

The Watkins path will take you along some truly amazing scenery, including the famous Watkin pools and some breathtaking views, it is however quite technically demanding as you get closer to the summit. So be prepared if you’re going to tackle this route.

Crib Goch is by far the most difficult path technical, it’s a peak unto itself, a knife-edge ridge with sheer cliff drops to either side, the aim of the game here is to scramble along the top of the ridge in a safe and controlled manner. Hiker attempting this need to be competent mountain hikers in good physical health, on top of this it helps having a head for heights.

It also has the potential to be quite dangerous, and so should really not be taken lightly. In my particular opinion, it should be attempted by experienced mountain walkers, or with the help of a professional mountain guide. However, if you meet the required skill level, it is such a rewarding feeling and achievement. The views are just next level.

Safety is paramount!

Make sure you have the right equipment for any adventure you are undergoing. Remember that it will usually be colder the higher up you go, and when you stop at the summit or along the way for breaks you are most likely experience it. Warm and waterproof layers, hats and gloves are a must on days without burning sunshine, and even then it’s a good idea to have them packed away in your backpack just in case things take a turn. Make sure you check the conditions first and then take appropriate precautions. Take ample supply of water, as well as food to keep you going on a physically taxing day. Also, have a first aid kit on hand, and get educated in how to use it – it might just save your life, and make things a bit safer.

Youll also wants a high-quality map which has comprehensive coverage of the area in which you are having your outing. Make sure you know the exact route you will be following when you set out, you’ll know how long your hike will take.  Make sure you check the forecast both when you are planning the trip and the day before/morning of the hike to be sure you have the most accurate and up-to-date prediction available. A whistle and headtorch are also heavily recommended. If you need somewhere to stay on your adventures check out holiday homes Bala.
